Parks & Recreation
Town of Erwin's Parks and Recreation Department is the heartbeat of our community's leisure and wellness activities. Nestled amidst the serene beauty of our town, our department is dedicated to maintaining recreational opportunities for residents of all ages.
Here's a glimpse of a few things our Parks and Recreation Department has to offer;
Veterans Park
Built in 2003 thanks to the support of the local community, the Unicoi County Veterans Memorial Park honors the men and women from Unicoi County who have served in the United States Armed Forces. The large, stone walls bear the names of these brave individuals who gave their service to our country. The park, which is located adjacent to Gentry Stadium along South Elm Avenue in Erwin, also features a large, covered picnic area. It is also the site for several celebrations throughout the year, including Memorial Day, Independence Day and Veterans Day. Renovations are currently underway at the park in an effort to protect the monuments from the elements. If you would like to make a donation to the renovations, please call Erwin Town Hall at 423-743-6231.
Linear Trail
The Erwin Linear Trail runs parallel to Interstate 26, along the North Indian Creek and Nolichucky waterways in the town. The greenway was designed by Tysinger, Hampton & Partners to help protect and enhance the environment and provide recreation to the community. The Linear Trail includes wooded areas, natural ponds, wetlands and mountain views. Trails wander around and through the ponds for recreation and fishing. It also provides instructional wetlands areas for local school programs. Throughout the year on the Linear Trail, you can find hikers, dog walkers, bicyclers, joggers, adults, children and families from the entire region. In recent years, the Erwin Kiwanis Club has built an age-appropriate and special needs play and learning park along the trail. Other amenities on the Linear Trail including night lighting, restrooms, benches and docks for fishing – all in a family-friendly area.
