Dear Business Owners,
ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICESGlenn Rosenoff, City Administrator
On June 10, 2019 the Town of Erwin Board of Mayor and Aldermen adopted State of Tennessee Public Chapter No. 241 of the Tennessee Public Acts through Town of Erwin Ordinance No. 709-19. This Public Act authorizes the Town of Erwin City Recorder to levy a privilege tax upon the occupancy of any Hotel as defined in the T.C.A. Starting September 1, 2019 you will be required to charge a 2.5% occupancy tax on the rentals that are 31 days or less. This includes but is not limited to hotels, motels, inns, tourist camp, tourist cabin, motel, bed and breakfast, short term rental unit or any place in which rooms, lodgings or accommodations are furnished to transients for consideration, campgrounds and cabin rentals.
This tax is in addition to the regular state sales tax rate. The 2.5% occupancy tax will be reported to the Town of Erwin Recorder’s Office by the 20th of the month following the month collection. Click here to find the form for the occupancy tax to be filled out and returned to us for the month of September 2019 by October 20, 2019. Please make copies as needed.
If the Business is considered to be a gross income of sales you are required by the State of Tennessee to have a Business License.
If you have any further questions or need help once this tax starts please feel free to contact our office at 423-743-6231.
