About the Role

The employee will use a variety of hand tools and small machinery such as a weed eater, chain saw, mower, etc. The employee may also operate a variety of light or occasionally heavy equipment such as a backhoe, dump truck, etc.
The employee will be required to lift, carry, dig, climb, bend and move moderately to very heavy objects. The employee may be exposed to all types of weather conditions with possible exposure to fumes, chemicals, or toxic substances. In addition, the employee may occasionally be required to work in high places.

Performs a variety of general labor duties such as painting, mowing, weed spraying, brush and weed trimming, and general parks and facilities maintenance.
Loads and unloads dirt, gravel, trash, refuse and other debris.
Cleans and repairs restrooms.
Trims trees and brush, applies mulch, operates leaf collection machinery.
Operates mowing machines and other small machinery, including welding equipment.
Operates and maintains small engines, asphalt roller and stripe machine.
Operates a variety of light and on occasion heavy equipment such as a dump truck, backhoe, etc.

Removes debris from street rights of ways, catch basins, drainage ways and other City property.
Assists with street maintenance, paving, sidewalk repair, sign repair, etc.
Cleans equipment and tools.
Performs routine maintenance on machinery, equipment, and tools.
Performs related work as required.


Successful completion of 12th grade.

Experience in performing heavy manual work.

Must have a valid Tennessee driver’s license.

Knowledge of the materials and equipment used in general maintenance and construction work.

Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.

Ability to carry out instructions.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and members of the public.

Ability to operate heavy and light equipment safely and properly.
